Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Patriot Blueberry self-pollinating, or do I need another variety?

A: Patriot is self-pollinating and will produce fruit on its own. However, for the largest berries and the heaviest yields (up to 12 lbs), we recommend planting it alongside another Northern Highbush variety like Bluecrop or Jersey to encourage cross-pollination.

Q: What Hardiness Zones are best for Patriot Blueberries?

A: Patriot is an exceptionally cold-hardy cultivar, thriving in USDA Zones 3 through 7. It is specifically bred to withstand the harsh winters of the northern United States and Canada.

Q: How big will this Patriot bush get, and can I grow it in a pot?

A: The Patriot Blueberry is a compact grower, reaching a mature height of just 3 to 5 feet. This manageable size makes it an excellent choice for container gardening on patios or balconies, provided you use an acidic potting mix.

Q: When can I expect to harvest fruit from this bush?

A: Patriot is an Early Season variety. Depending on your specific location and weather, the fruit typically ripens in June or early July, often providing the first blueberry harvest of the year.

This is a very popular blueberry bush. I see it in many catalogs. The berries are delicious, so I'm looking forward to them. Much larger plants than I have received from other catalog stores. They arrived healthy and beautiful. I love the multicolored fall foliage! Well packed, not a single problem. Thank you.
