Snowbank Floricane Thorny. The White blackberry is an unusual white variety of blackberry developed by plant breeder Luther Burbank in the end of 19th century and it was successfully introduced by him to the general public in 1914-16.  It is also known as the iceberg white blackberry or Snowbank berry, probably originating as a pun on the name "Burbank". He originally found a wild pale colored blackberry in New Jersey, named it 'Crystal White'. He then mixed that berry with other berries in different combinations and generations. Burbank had tried out 65,000 unsuccessful crossbreeds at his facility in Santa Rosa, California, before enjoying success in 1894 . Second generation of his first seedlings. Grandchildren of the Lawton and the original wild "Crystal White" from New Jersey showed a tendency to vary in the color of their fruit, this being in some cases yellowish white. But as he wrote in the end of this research:  There was a small white berry and a large luscious black one, and I have brought the best qualities of each together in a new combination". Zone: 5-9.
